French Doors

Chiselworks manufacture quality bespoke French Doors, and patio doors, and can completely replicate existing doors where required.

Whether you're looking for something really bespoke, or you're looking to replace an existing set of French doors, we provide the full service from design, manufacturing, finishing and installation. Our highly skilled joiners only use the best quality timbers, and our doors and frames are traditionally mortice and tenoned.

For paint finishing, we have a purpose built spray booth, where we can colour match any RAL colour, providing a full factory spray finish in Teknos paint.

Door Leaf:

Seasoned hardwood or softwood (specified by the client)- usually either a spray painted sapele or redwood, or an oiled oak. External French door thickness is a minimum of 57mm, and internal doors tend to be a minimum of 44mm.  Our French Doors are mortice and tenon construction, and we reinforce every joint with wedges in order to ensure optimum strength and durability.

Range:

We offer all designs of French door, both traditional and contemporary. We cut scribed joint in chamfer, ovolo, ogee and many other moulds. We are not limited to a range or design, and manufacture French doors to fit curved or arched top apertures.

Frames:

For our French door frames, we use seasoned hardwood or softwood (specified by the client)- standard section size of 57mm x 90mm, with a larger option of 70mm x 100mm if you're looking for a chunkier look. On external French doors, we groove in a drip groove as standard, with a minimum of at least one layer of Aquamac compression seals. If requested, we can double up on the seals, to ensure a completely weather tight door frame. We use compression weather bars on our sills to ensure a completely tight fit all around the door.

On internal French doors we can either manufacture rebated frames, or we can fit to existing frames.

Glazing:

Where we can, we use A rated LOW-E double glazing units (usually 4-16-4), with warm edge spacer bars. If you're looking for a specific type of glazing to meet planning/eco criteria, and you need to meet a U value- no problem, we have close relationships with well-established glazing companies, who offer invaluable advice and technical support.

Door Security:

We offer a wide range of locking systems, including 5/7 lever ERA/Union rebate mortice locks, to multipoint locking systems. For our French doors we add either flush or surface mounted shoot bolts in order to secure the slave door.

Door Furniture (Optional):

We like to give our clients the opportunity to pick their own hardware, so they aren't limited to a specific range. Our doors are provided pre hung on quality ball bearing hinges, and all hardware is pre fitted for you.

Fanlight and Sidelights:

Please contact us to discuss any French doors with fanlight or sidelight options. We are able to design and manufacture to suit you frame/aperture dimensions.

Finishing:

We have in-house spray facilities, with a 4m spray booth and a AAA Graco spray system. On internal doors end grain is sealed with preservative in order to stop rot and swelling. Doors and frames are initially sprayed with 2 coats of microporous water based primer undercoat and left to dry naturally. We then provide a further 2 top coats of quality waterbased paint. We can colour match any RAL code.

Installation:

We can either offer a supply only service, or a full installation.
